Reminder: All Reading Logs will be checked for a grade quickly in class each Monday. With the confusion over missing school yesterday, I will accept these tomorrow as well (Wednesday).
ALL CLASSES: 4H speech winners from each class should be receiving their invitation in the mail for the 4H County Competition. Please understand that this is highly competitive and time-consuming, but it is a wonderful experience for the students. Students who arrive and register earlier will speak earlier, and you may leave after speaking if you need to. Judging and awards are made that evening, so this often runs quite late. Students who attend will receive 100 extra credit quiz grade. This is the information in the letter:

Congratulations! As a winner of the local school contest, your child is
being invited to compete at the 2009 Shelby County 4-H Public Speaking
Contest. The participant should use the same speech topic for the county
competition. We do encourage the member to add or delete to the existing
speech to improve the quality before competing at the county level. The
4-H member will be timed at the county level. Time limits are as follows:
4th 1-2 minutes
5th 2-3 minutes
6th 3-4 minutes
7th -8th 3-5 minutes
9th -12th 5-7 minutes (plus extemporaneous question)
Please arrive at the Agricenter between 5:00-5:45 pm to register. The
contest will begin promptly at
6:00 pm. Your family members and friends are welcome.
After all speeches are made in their respective grade level competitions,
winners will be announced and ribbons presented. Trophies for 1st, 2nd and
3rd place winners in each grade will be awarded at the 4-H Recognition
Banquet in December, 2009.

Classes B,C, and D: Quiz over Tuck Everlasting, chapters 8-18. Lesson on Figurative Language (imagery, personification, simile, metaphor). Homework: Complete Wordly Wise lesson 7B. Test on book, Tuck Everlasting, will be next Wednesday.

Class A: Complete reading of book. Information on project to create a mock web site. Your illustration should include all the information needed to advertise for or against The Man in the Yellow Suit selling the water on the internet. Due Monday.
Class B,C,D: Complete reading of book. Information on project to create an acrostic for one of the main characters in the book, Tuck Everlasting. Due Monday.

Classes B,C,D: Checked Reading Log and Wordlyy Wise 6C in class. Discussed Tuck Everlasting Prologue – Ch.7. Homework: Complete Wordly Wise lesson 6D.
Tuesday: Class A: Reviewed Wordly Wise Test 6 and returned them. Homework: Define (flash cards) for Wordly Wise Lesson 7. Write each definition, not sentences. Began reading chapters 8-18 in Tuck Everlasting. Classes B,C, and D: Checked homework Wordly Wise 6D and began 6E. Complete for homework, writing complete sentences for answers. Quiz tomorrow on WW 6 vocabulary. Test will be Thursday. We began reading chapters 8-18 in Tuck Everlasting.
Wednesday: Class A: Figurative language videos and activity (WS) Homework: Wordly Wise lesson 7A.
Classes B,C,D: Wordly Wise 6 quiz. Corrected in class. Use this to review for test tomorrow on lesson 6 vocab.
Thursday: Class A: 4 H newsletter distributed. Read Tuck Everlasting through ch. 18. Homework: Wordly Wise Lesson 7A. Write bold print and vocabulary word. Classes B,C,D: Wordly Wise 6 TEST. Read Tuck Everlasting through ch. 18. Homework: Begin Lesson 7 Wordly Wise with definitions on flash cards.
Friday: E/S reward today! We will be watching the video “Tuck Everlasting”! You are allowed to check out a copy of Tuck Everlasting IF you return in on Monday. I only have 22 copies of this book. Mrs. Jackson’s Science Fair Project Information
1/12/09- Science Fair Project Information Packets sent home.
1/16/09- Purpose, Research Information and Hypothesis components are due. This information must be written or typed in on the Science Project Lab Report that was included in the packet. This component counts as a quiz grade and a parent signature gets 5 points added to this quiz grade.
1/23/09- Materials and Procedures must be complete and written in on the Science Project Lab Report This component counts as a quiz grade and a parent signature gets 5 points added to this quiz grade.
1/30/09- Data Charts, Results and Conclusion are due and must be written or typed in on the Science Project Lab Report. This component counts as a quiz grade and a parent signature gets 5 points added to this quiz grade.
Final Lab Reports (Neatly written or typed using complete sentences) is due on Thursday, February 5th. The CMS 6th Grade Science Fair is Tuesday, February 10th in the cafeteria. I will post the times later.
EVERY student must complete a Science Project Lab Report. Students can not work in groups on their projects. Non APEX Students will receive extra credit for completing a project board of their project. APEX students are required to complete a project board for their project. I strongly encourage students to take pictures or even video tape their experiments. If you are entering the Science Fair, you must cover the faces on the pictures with stickers. 1/13/09 Tuesday- Chapter 9 Section 2 “Moons”. Students will discuss the moons of the various planets in our solar system and look at space satellite images of them and examine their history. There may be a pop quiz over the lesson.

1/14/09 Wednesday- The students will distinguish between solar and lunar eclipses. REPORT CARDS GO HOME TODAY!!!!

1/15/09 Thursday- Chapter 9 Section 3 “Small Bodies in the Solar System” Pop Quiz over Comets and Asteroids after the lesson.

1/16/09 Friday- Check the purpose, research information and hypothesis components of the Science Fair Project. This information must be written on the Science Project Lab Report sheet in a neat manner using complete sentences.

Math B and D Jan. 12-16
Monday – We worked on division of fractions, Lesson 6-6. No homework.
Tuesday- We discussed Lesson 6-6, again, and took a quiz. We began our discussion of measurements. HW: Look over the measurement equivalents from Lesson 6-7.
Wednesday- We worked on word problems and measurement. HW: Complete ws on converting measures.
Thursday- We checked last night’s hw and took a quiz. We went over area a perimeter. No hw. Test on Tuesday over 6-4 thru 6-9.
Math A and C Jan. 12-16
Monday-We discussed addition and subtraction of like fractions. HW/CW was to copy and work p. 230, 4-51. Skip 36-41. Be sure to simplify.
Tuesday- We discussed A/S of like fractions and took a quiz. Then, we discussed A/S of mixed numbers with like denomonators. Class C’s classwork was SB book, p. 211, (1-20). This was turned in. No HW.
Thursday- Class C did Thinklink. Class A worked on adding unlike fractions. No hw.
