Language Arts — Mrs. Hammond — October 20-24
Monday: Class A-Finished reading Ta-Na-E-Ka aloud and discussing. Completed SAT vocabulary quiz for last 10 words. All Classes: Test Thursday on story. Received Spelling List #9 Homophones, due tomorrow (both sides). Received guidelines for PTA Citizenship essay we will be completing this week. Final copy is due Thursday, October 23. Must be peer edited in class before then. If you decide to enter the contest, you will receive 5 extra credit TEST points! Today, class C missed due to Smoking seminar, and Class D missed due to Pep Rally, but information was handed out.
Tuesday: Computer lab. Meet Mrs. Hammond in the computer lab room instead of regular class. We will begin word processing training.
Wednesday: Library today. Return books. I will check for rough copy of citizenship essay while in library. Final copy due tomorrow in class. Also, I will collect the AR sheets that went out with report cards.
Thursday: Turned in final copy of essay and turned in signed AR form from report card. Review Ta-Na-E-Ka in class. Test tomorrow on this story. Students will turn in Spelling worksheet 9 (front and back) for HW grade. Spelling quiz on Friday.
Friday: Spelling quiz 9. Test on Ta-Na-E-Ka story.

DVD’s on Huffing and Drinking. This is information that you NEED to know!
Handouts will also be available. The Huffing DVD will be shown on the
half-hours at 5:30 and 6:30. The Drinking DVD will be shown on the hour at
6:00 and 7:00. Please make time in your Open House schedule to view this

Wildlife on Wheels Money and Permission Slip due on Friday, October 17th
Wildlife on Wheels is an educational program sponsored by the Memphis Zoo. This program brings a Zoo educator to your classroom for an interactive lesson that includes live animals. This program is offered in a small setting and meets sixth grade science state performance indicators. The cost to attend is $3.80 exact cash or a check made out to CMS.

Wednesday: Students began the unit “Characters: The People You Meet” by discussing literary terms in Holt Reader, p. 43. Read section from book, Bud, Not Buddy.
Homework: Complete Reading Log each night. Parent signature each week. Illustrate Sheet for binder with title, “Characters: The People You Meet” . No spelling list this week.

WEDNESDAY 10-15-08 I hope everyone had a fun fall break. Today we began our study of positive and negative integers and absolute value-Ch.3 Lessons 1 and 2. HW: None.
THURSDAY 10-16-08 Today we studied graphing ordered pairs-Ch3, L. 2. Hw: Finish graphing the ordered pairs to make a picture. I took up the Columbus sheet today.
FRIDAY 10/17/08 Today we studied addiding positive and negative integers. Hw is in the WB Lesson 5-4/practice.
Math A and C Oct. 15-17
WEDNESDAY 10-15-08 I hope everyone had a fun fall break. Today in class we began our study of decimals-Ch. 3, L 1. We reviewed reading/writing decimals and understanding place value. Hw tonight(which most finished in class), is to complete the decimal worksheet. The Columbus worksheet is also due tomorrow.
THURSDAY 10-16-08 We worked, again, on reading and writing decimals. Class A doesn’t have hw. Class C must do p. 599 Lesson 3-2. Be sure to copy the problems.
We will have a quiz on comparing decimals.
FRIDAY 10-17-08 We checked hw and Class C had a quiz. HW: finish the Search and Shade #34(both classes)

10/15/08 Wednesday- Start work on adaptation project in class. Students will work on a rough draft and be able to ask questions today. The project allows students to create an imaginary organism using page 53 and the guidelines sheet that I gave them in class. If you need a copy of the guidelines or have any questions, just e-mail me.
